Different Varieties of Nicotrol Gum
Nicotrol gum is available in two different strengths: 'Regular Strength' and 'Extra Strength'. The 'Regular Strength' gum has two milligrams of nicotine in each piece of gum, which is why it is also known as 2mg gum. The 4mg Nicotrol gum is referred to as 'Extra Strength' gum and is twice the strength of the 2mg gum. The difference between the two is that the 4mg gum is intended for those people who were "heavy" smokers, which equates to those who used to smoke about twenty cigarettes a day. If you were a "heavy" smoker, you should think about using Nicotrol 4mg gum as the starting point for your NRT treatment. This is to ensure that you get enough nicotine to alleviate the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. If you find that the 4mg Nicotrol gum is too strong for you then it may be that the 2mg gum is more suitable for your needs.
It may take a little time to initially get used to the taste of the gum. The strong taste and tingling that you may get when you chew the gum lets you know that the nicotine has been released. This is why you do not want to continuously chew the gum and should use the periodic chew and "park" technique instead. To help make chewing the gum become a more pleasurable experience, Nicotrol gum is available in two flavours. The standard flavour is called Classic while the other flavour is Mint. Whether you prefer the Mint or the plain flavoured gum is up to you. Nicotrol gum is available in both 30 piece and 105 piece packs. The 30 piece pack of Nicotrol gum might be an ideal place to start if you want to taste the different flavours of Nicotrol gum before you commit yourself to a programme lasting a few months. Each piece of Nicotrol gum in these packs is foil sealed in a plastic blister in order to keep them fresh.
